May 2023, Alba-Bra (IT)
A full day shooting from an E-bike for a young tour operator, Outdoor Tramontiemare, offering a 3-days trip from Barolo to the Ligurian sea. Our target – I worked along Marco Rimondi who took care of the videos – was to get material for general promotion of the project, both for the stakeholdes (sponsors, investors, and institutions) and the prospect clients.

What was good, or easy
The territory was a surprise: Valle Tanaro is charming, if anything for the post-industrial abandoned mood of some places. Also, historic towns are at every turn of the road.
The interaction with people was very nice: the relaxed mood of the ride helped us to shoot with confidence and fun.

What was bad, or hard
Riding 60k offroad with a photographic backpack? Check!
Also, E-bikes go fast, no matter your training. We had to stop the group quite often to shoot in scenic places (sorry guys!)
Finally, I had to shoot the press conference in a very, very dark room; moreover, the heavy curtains gave an equally heavy red tone: luckily white balance exists 🙂

Any surprise, good or bad
The colors were a surprise: being a “free ride”, every rider came with a different outfit. This made hard to find harmony in shots, compelling both me and my videomaker colleague to isolate subjects or small groups to keep it simple.
A few numbers

- Pictures shot: about 3.500 plus about 50 with the drone.
- Final output: About 400 pics plus a dozen drone photos .
- Equipment: I decided to dump the 17mm 1.2 because we were shooting only in daylight, and I had to make room for the drone. The rest was usual: two bodies with 12-40mm f2.8 and 40-150mm f2.8
