Gravel and ultra reportage

Ultracycling implies very specific dynamics: solitude, despair, challenging situations, but also companionship, accomplishment, and sheer joy. Plus, a crazy logistics with no breaks for days. Only knowing the discipline firsthand lets you capture interesting moments and get close enough to riders to tell their stories, while prioritizing the stories and not wasting resources. Covering various events across Europe also means getting to know many riders closely, following their trajectories over the years — which builds a depth of narrative very hard to achieve otherwise.

Three Peaks Bike Race

A classic unsupported race with three famous climbs in the Alps, from Vienna to Nice (or Barcelona). in 2025 I covered the last peak, Col delle Finestre, for three days and three nights, getting to know the local community of shepherds and refuge managers. In 2026, I covered both Mangart Saddle (peak 1, Slovenia) and Col de la Loze (peak 3, France).

Zuri Escape / The Cake Movement

400km and 10,000m of elevation gain with two checkpoints: a ‘classic’ ultracycling format, but with a Cake Movement twist. Three days of work with a car and an electric bike, coordinating with Jennifer (photo) and Christian (video). The third project of a solid collaboration with Dominik, Fabian, and Stefano. In 2026, besides Backyard Gravel, we will work together also for Pain au Chocolat, the new road race format.

Upcycle trail weekend

A traditional autumn Italian event. Saturday reportage (indoor) and a pedaled reportage of Sunday’s social ride. This too is a well-established collaboration with this renowned hub of cycling culture.

An event but also a celebration. And a lot of mud. The first edition of an ambitious yet relaxed project, whose permanent route was named ‘best overnight route‘ on bikepacking.com, by both the jury and the public.

The event itself is just the moment of action, the classic tip of the iceberg. The key is all the preparation work that happens beforehand. When it's done carefully, it allows you to handle all the unexpected issues of a gravel event or an ultra race without any problems.

Whether it's a one-day event or a two-week one, the difference between a shot that works and a useless one is a matter of just a few seconds. Knowing the habits and conditioned reflexes of the riders is essential for being in the right place at the right time. Riding together with them is the key to immediately getting past that initial moment of awkwardness.

If traditional coverage is horizontal, the pedaled kind is vertical: an adventure experienced from start to finish, with unparalleled continuity. It's still the story of the other participants, who meet each other (or chase each other, or wait for each other) along the route; but with a much stronger narrative coherence. Or, is the perfect way to tell the story of a territory.
